UPSTAIRS

tHE ENTRANCE HALL

In every single home I have ever occupied, there has been a hat wall. My parents have a hat wall, my parents, parents. As the old saying goes “where ever I hang my (multiple) hatS…”. Every hat has got a story to tell. The hallway also houses my most favourite thing I’ve ever bought. The gold cowboy boot umbrella holder. When life presents you with a thing of such beauty, you have literally no choice but to take it home.

tHE GALLERY

When you reach the upper hallway you can really get a feel for how this house works. It’s like a little hotel. From up here you get a birds eye view of all the action down stairs. I hate closed doors. I love to feel connected to people who are around. Hear them chatting in the morning from my bed. Fall asleep to a movie being watched downstairs. It’s the perfect place for a group of life lovers.

“TOUCH OF ASIA”

I cant think of many things I love more than massive asian paper lanterns . The ones used in this room are Japanese and 100 years old. You can feel their energy. Everything else in here was collected through my travels to Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and China. And the bathroom was wood panelled using the left over wooden floor boards I had. Putting all the tricks I had learnt at “wood school” to good use.

“TOUCH OF OUI”

Right after I bought this house I spent a load of time in Mexico. On an extended inspiration/procrastination trip. I was inspired by so many things, so many skins, sins and mezcal shaped things and…Lime plastering. Lime plastering is a natural way they paint the walls in Mexico using pigment and plaster. I love the human quality, the imperfections, the movement it creates so used that tradition in this room. I found these amazing yellow curtains at an estate sales and decied to make a kind of deconstructed four poster bed and suddenly BAM we were in the South of France (never a bad thing). My wonderful friend Toby Ross Southhall sent me the charcoal above the bed … Et voilà, la salle est terminée.

“JACK AND JILL”

“A Jack-and-Jill bathroom is a space that works in conjunction with two bedrooms, allowing the spaces to have a conjoining, en suite bathroom” If you didnt know (I didnt) well now you do.

“TOUCH OF TOUCHING”

One of the negotiations when buying the house was that all of the bedroom furniture sets had to be thrown in with the deal. One, because I knew how expensive buying four times bedroom furniture sets was going to be and two…because this was one of the sets. With furniture this sleek all you have to do is add some velvet, silk, gloss paint and a red light and the job is done. Pillows and art by me, memories by you.

“TOUCH OF SEA SALT”

This room is as big as a large New York apartment. I wanted to add value to rooms with skills I had, because they were free, so played with gloss and matte paint to create this mural on the wall. At first being very intentional and slow and then just enjoying the creativity. The rest of the room hung off the two stone pelicans that I fell in love with. The step in tub was obviously another reason I bought this house and pulling up the original carpet (ew) that was on it was one of life’s greatest pleasures.

tHE OFFICE/ WRITING ROOM/STUDIO

Close the door and use this private work space for what ever you need. Its absolutely perfect for mixing, working, or nailing some missing lyrics. You can step out on the balcony for a breath or a phone call. You’ve got pinboards on the walls, a printer, interface and all the pencils you could ever need. The sofa folds out into a bed making this a fifth bedroom if needed.
